Mass Communication student’s were given the opportunity to interview Taiwan’s top blogger.

Michael Turton came to Taiwan in 1989 and became a very active person in Taiwan’s politics since.

He taught in several universities, had his own business going on for a little while and started blogging on 2005, he also ran a few websites and is actually teaching at Chao Yang University in Taichung, a city in the middle of Taiwan.

Michael was already known on the internet before he started blogging.

The view from Taiwan is at the moment one of the top English blogs in Taiwan, where he uploads his photography work and post articles expressing his political view about the latest news of Taiwan.

During the speech he gave at Ming Chuan University on the 9th of November, Michael said he wants to change the way Taiwan is discussed in the world media and raise Taiwan profile.

“People are visual animals” added Michael announcing one of the strategies he’s relying on to reach his goal is photography. A lot of people, in and outside of Taiwan, visits his website to see the photos and Michael will add a little article about Taiwan, so in a way, it’s a sort of exchange of interest between him and his viewers.

Michael Introduced himself at the beginning of the speech, he’s married with a local woman and has 2 kids, and he worked for Taiwan’s Independence movement on Washington D.C. between from 1991 and 1993.

“Taiwan is so much better than what it used to be” added Michael, while he talked about how important the role of globalization in Taiwan is, and how blogs can change the view of a person, a country and even the whole world.

He ended up his speech by giving the audience some advices on how to run a good and successful blog which included: To have new content everyday on the blog, to build up a community and to have a lot of photos on the blog.
